A little off track....

Well I can see easily how quickly a plan can derail!  But the good news is that with this meal planning I do have options to move things around so that is good.  So if you look at this past week's menu vs. what you maybe saw last week it was quite a bit different.  We had a busy week this week so went back to some old classics for us that are easy to make.  I think you might see a lot of that these next few weeks while I am studying for my PMP exams.  Between that and some busy weekends.  On a positive note, we just booked a trip for Disney with the kids!  That is going to be so much fun.  Now the research begins.

Spent another $100 at the grocery this week which I thought was high given I had most of what I needed for the week.  But I did buy pop and meat which might have driven up the price a bit.

Well enjoy again!

Another one bites the dust!

Another week down.  I feel like the weeks have been going by so quickly these last few weeks.  I guess that isn't a bad thing since we are in the middle of winter.  We had another pretty good week of meals.  None that we totally hated so that was good :)

Last night I organized a girls night out at Cooking Thyme which is our local version of a place like My Girlfriend's kitchen.  We had 13 ladies come and make approx. 6 meals each to then take home and freeze.  The good thing was most of those meals you could split and get 2 meals out of them which is even better.  So you will see the next few weeks where we are starting to eat those so there won't be a recipe.  I do have an appetizer recipe for you though.  I made this Thai Appetizer pizza to take last night.  It was really easy and so yummy.  Also a nice twist on your normal veggie pizza:

Thai Appetizer Pizza - Pillsbury

Also here are our meals for this week.  Just got back from the grocery and spent $90 this week.  So not too bad.  You will also notice this week and for the next 5 weeks, Jim and the kids are on their own every Wednesday night.  I am going to be sitting for the exam to get my PMP Certification (Project Management Professional) and I have a review course.  Of course it has to be out on the east side in the middle of winter!  Hope the weather cooperates.  Wish me luck, I haven't studied for anything since the CPA exam!

Another week down.

We just finished up our dinner from Week 2.  This was another successful week and one with a few adjustments.  Due to a few of us not feeling tip top, we moved a few things around.  I have become a bit of a nazi around the meal planning and spent some time this afternoon putting more recipes into the database.  Still have lots more to add and will probably do some more tonight after the kids go to bed.

We had the potato curry tonight.  I added shredded chicken to this recipe to give it some protien and also used olive oil instead of Ghee. Be careful when you add the mustard seeds, they pop everywhere! May want to add after you put the potatoes in. I wish I didn't put the chicken in. It didn't need it at all. I really liked it, but Jim did not. So don't think it will end up in our rotation. Plus I think it makes more like 6 servings. This was a lot of food. At the last minute I decided that Naan would taste good with it so ran to the store to grab some. The kids don't eat much bread and they both loved this. Will need to get some more.

This week we have a few things going on so the menu isn't too crazy and our grocery bill came back down to around $100 as well.  So that is good.

Week 1 Complete!

Well we got through the first week of meal planning and I have to say what a relief it was to come home and realize I didn't have to think about dinner.  We also didn't go out to eat one night last week.   We usually go out at least once so that alone should help with my waistline.  Although that new Drive Thru Diet at Taco Bell looks like it should work (yeah right!).  Who believes that stuff!

Well anyway, my reviews for week 1 recipes are attached below along with our Week 2 menu.  A little diversity this week which lead to my quite a bit larger grocery bill.  It cost me $156.82 this week.  Now the spices for the Indian dish cost me about $20 alone!  But now that I have them we should be good with those.  This also doesn't account for our trip to Costo where all of our chicken and beef comes from.  Just ended up being a bigger week this week.

Enjoy!!!

New Year's Resolution

So as you can see I haven't updated this blog since May.  Haven't been too good about updating.  Since most of our friends and family are on Facebook, I have been posting there instead.  So I decided to change up this blog a bit and make it more about my New Year's Resolution.

My New Year's Resolution this year is to plan our family's weekly meals each Sunday.  I have started to put all of our recipes into an Access database.  (Thanks to my sister who already had one started from her wedding cookbook.)  I added a bunch of recipes I had in my email inbox and am already at over 200 recipes.  I plan on letting Jim pick out some recipes for the week and/or run a random to pick them for us.  Yes nerdy I know, but kind of fun.

With a little inspiration from the movie Julie and Julia and friends asking for our menus, I decided to update our blog with our menus each week.  Now don't be expecting to find recipes that Julia Child would make.  Our tastes are pretty midwestern with an emphasis on Mexican.  We love Mexican and eat it weekly.  So it will be nice to see how we mix it up over the year.  You also won't find any seafood here.  Jim and I aren't seafood fans.  What you will find though is the Weight Watcher points that are associated with each recipe.  I am working to get back down to my weight pre-CJ.  Yeah I know he is almost 2 years old, but what can I say haven't been too motivated.  So hopefully this weekly menu planning will not only help our pocket, but our waistlines as well.  I also plan to write a review of each recipe and any amendments I make.

So does anyone have any predictions on how long I will keep this up???  I hope I can do it for the year, but we will see.  I am sure there will be weeks we don't do well, but it seemed so easy at the grocery store today.  I bought our entire weeks meals and only spent $70.  Will be interesting to see if our grocery budget decreases this year.

So feel free to "borrow" any of our recipes and enjoy.

Happy New Year!!!
