The Giant Eagle-Marc's Challenge

A new Marc's opened up recently in Avon.  So I decided to give it a shot today.  Everyone keeps saying how much you can save there and it is brand name stuff and good produce.  I was curious how much you really do save so I took my receipt to Giant Eagle and priced it all out.

My sub-total at Marcs was $86.68 for 61 items.  The same total at Giant Eagle was $110.01.  That is a savings at Marc's of 23.33!  And that is just one week!

Now that aside here are a couple of other thoughts:

Giant Eagle

• Eagle's Nest - Savannah loves it here
• Carry Gallons of Organic Milk - need to price out 2 half gallons at Marc's to see price difference
• Has more to choose from
• Double coupons
• Fuel Perks
• Open 24 hours - I tend to grocery shop after the kids go to bed

Marcs

• Cheaper
• Their produce was actually better than Giant Eagle (which isn't that difficult)
• Not as much to choose from
• Can't navigate - hopefully that will change once I get used to it
• Closeouts - could for sure defray any savings if I let myself go down these isles
• Corbo's bakery items - yummy!

So I think the jury is still out.  I didn't like shopping at Marc's I must say.  But looking at the price difference I think I may just have to get used to it.  I think I may head to Marc's for most of my shopping and still hit Giant Eagle for their sale items.  Like this week 4 boxes of cereal for $10 was hard to beat!  But that does make me go to two places.  And then there is always a few trips to Heinen's and Costco.
